O.K.L.A.H.O.M.A
Oklahoma. I was born in Oklahoma but don't remember much. My parents were high school sweethearts, and my mom got pregnant with my two oldest brothers (twins). I remember my grandpa telling me (not verbatim) that he told my Dad, he would support him if they chose to live with him and my grandma and go to school. However, if he wants to make a man out of himself, he could join the military. So he did - a couple of years later my mom, him and my oldest brothers move to Holland. My middle brother was then born in Holland. They later moved to Oklahoma, which is where my story begins.
Now, my thoughts and feelings on my life are just that. I'm sure recollections of times are different per person and their own perspective. Like I said I really don't remember much about Oklahoma. My parents got divorced, maybe I was 2? My dad ended up being alone with my three brothers and me - as a new Air Force Airman, no money, probably no clue what he was going to do. I didn't understand the situation my dad was in until I had an epiphany in 2024 (story for another time). My dad met my stepmom, who came in to a family of four children who were not hers and took on the role as a mom.
To be clear we still saw our mom and always had a relationship with her, we still do, but the day to day was my dad and our new stepmom.
Being married now and my husband becoming a stepdad, or bonus dad as we like to say, I have learned a whole new perspective on step parenting and an absolute newfound respect and responsibility of that parent.
So here we are, in Oklahoma. My northern "boy" dads support system (his family) all the way up in Minnesota. With four kids, still new career in the Air Force, no money. Again, with very few memories I have there two of my favorites were:
Going to Jamie D's and two stepping with all my heart and soul with my brother and getting my first pair of roper boots.
Those black roper boots....I wish to this day I had them and could share with my girls!
I can't remember when we moved from Oklahoma, I want to say 1994. Little did I know that Oklahoma would become a much bigger part of my story then I ever knew.
We were off to England, ready for a new chapter to begin.
